Replacement of membrane wall panels in a heat-recovery boiler during a shutdown maintenance period at Billerud in Gävle, Sweden.
Billerud’s production facility in Gävle manufactures liquid packaging board and liner products. Reliable boiler operation is an important part of maintaining stable and efficient production at the facility.
Our team supported the maintenance shutdown by replacing membrane wall panels within the heat-recovery boiler. The assignment involved specialised work in a critical area of the boiler, where material quality, installation precision, and dependable workmanship were essential.
The replacement panels utilised high-performance composite tubes designed to withstand demanding boiler operating conditions.
Project Scope
The scope comprised the controlled removal of the existing membrane wall sections and the fitting, welding, and integration of the new panels into the boiler structure.
The composite tubes consisted of a carbon steel core combined with a stainless steel outer layer. This construction provides the mechanical strength of carbon steel together with enhanced surface protection and greater resistance to the harsh conditions inside the boiler.
As the work was carried out during a shutdown, all activities had to follow the agreed schedule. Efficient progress, consistent quality control, and compliance with all safety requirements were essential throughout the replacement.
The project was delivered with a strong focus on welding quality, efficient execution, workplace safety, and the reliable long-term performance of the installed membrane wall panels.
