The Northvolt Expansion Plant Phase 2 project forms part of the ongoing development of the Northvolt Ett facility in Skellefteå, Sweden, described by Northvolt as Europe’s first homegrown gigafactory for the production of lithium ion batteries.
The project is located within a large scale industrial complex of significant strategic importance. The facility currently extends to approximately 500,000 square metres, with future expansion planned to reach up to around 1.5 million square metres, underlining the scale and importance of the site within the European battery manufacturing sector.
Project Scope
The project was delivered by a dedicated team of approximately 10 personnel. The scope of works comprised the fabrication and installation of a substantial portion of the fire protection system within the Northvolt Expansion Plant Phase 2 development.
Works included on site fabrication and installation of pipework systems, enabling flexibility in delivery and addressing the constraints associated with large scale prefabrication. The approach ensured efficient sequencing of works and alignment with the overall construction programme.
The project required close coordination with multiple contractors within a large scale industrial environment, with a strong focus on maintaining high standards of quality, installation accuracy, and safety performance.
