Replacement of an economiser header during a scheduled maintenance shutdown at Eskilstuna Strängnäs Energi.

Eskilstuna Strängnäs Energi is a municipal utility company responsible for combined heat and power (CHP) production, district heating, water services, and an advanced optical sorting facility for household recycling.

Reliable boiler operation is essential to maintaining efficient energy production and a dependable district-heating supply. As part of a planned shutdown programme, our team carried out the replacement of an economiser header within the boiler system.

The header is a critical pressure-bearing component that distributes and collects flow through the economiser tube bank, making accurate installation and high-quality welding essential for dependable boiler operation.

Project Scope

The scope comprised the removal of the existing economiser header, preparation of the connecting tube ends, positioning and alignment of the replacement header, and completion of the associated fitting and welding works.

Particular attention was given to dimensional control and fit-up, as even minor variations could affect multiple tube connections. Each stage was carried out methodically to ensure the replacement header was properly integrated into the existing pressure system.

All activities had to remain aligned with the wider shutdown programme, requiring efficient use of time and close cooperation with other work taking place at the facility.

The replacement was delivered with a strong emphasis on dimensional accuracy, pressure-part welding quality, safe working practices, and dependable boiler performance.
